IRGC Navy Claims 24-hour Intelligence Dominance Over Strait of Hormuz
Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the IRGC Navy, delivered the statement shortly after the commencement of military maneuvers in the narrow waterway—recognized as one of the globe’s most critical maritime chokepoints—situated between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
The IRGC Navy’s communications department characterized the operation as “combined, live and purpose-driven” drills, emphasizing the coordinated and operational nature of the exercise.
According to Iran’s state broadcaster, Tangsiri affirmed that naval monitoring throughout the Strait of Hormuz remains “comprehensive at surface, aerial and even sub-surface levels.”
He explained that such oversight guarantees the “safe passage of vessels” navigating the corridor, noting that upwards of 80 oil tankers and cargo ships transit the channel each day, representing a considerable share of global seaborne commerce.
He further indicated that the exercises are unfolding across both the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, portraying the islands positioned within these waterways as “impregnable fortresses.”
Tangsiri underscored that safeguarding these islands, along with the entirety of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, “is the responsibility of the IRGC Navy,” which stages “routine annual exercises to ensure security” across the vital maritime zone.
Concluding his remarks, he highlighted that the drills form part of the navy’s scheduled yearly agenda. Their distinctiveness, he noted, stems from the “tactical maneuvers and equipment being employed,” adding that certain capabilities involved have yet to be formally revealed.
