IRGC-Linked Gunboat Fires on Commercial Vessel Off Oman

(MENAFN) The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed Wednesday that a commercial vessel came under fire from a gunboat linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), approximately 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman.

The container ship's master reported that the IRGC-linked gunboat approached without issuing any radio warning before unleashing fire on the vessel, inflicting what UKMTO described as "heavy damage" to the ship's bridge.

Despite the severity of the attack, UKMTO offered a measure of relief, stating: "No fires or environmental impact reported. All Crew reported safe."

No further details regarding the vessel's identity, flag state, or cargo have been disclosed at this time. The incident marks the latest in a series of maritime security flashpoints in waters surrounding the Arabian Peninsula.
